Love Learning Life - Quick Start

In this guide and other articles, I use the acronym LLL for Love Learning Life. The only rule of LLL is that you can use this website in whatever way you choose. However, this quick start guide will help you become familiar with the site.

First, choose your time period (click on the picture)

Second, choose the week you would like to begin. (click on the picture) You don't have start at week one, if that doesn't make sense with where you are at in your school cycle.

Third, use the topics in the order that makes sense for your day. We always start with devotion, so that is why it is the first block to click on. But if you do devotions in the evening, start with a different topic.

Tips:

  • I write on a white board the items each week I would like my kids to memorize, from LLL. You get to pick what that is. I usually choose a faith quote from scripture or a saint, the history sentence, some science facts, and a poem. It is amazing how just going over the memory items a couple times a day cements them into our mind.

  • Let LLL be a launching pad into discussions, curiosity, and exploration, even if it messes up your “schedule.”

"Give your child a single valuable idea, and you have done more for his education than if you had laid upon his mind the burden of bushels of information." Charlotte Mason

  • Because LLL is a website, you can take it everywhere you have internet. We love to do our morning time outside, or on a road trip.

Topics

Devotions - Includes a word from the saints. (This means a quote from canonized saints, theologians, religious men and woman, authors and others)

Bible - A Bible story from a public domain source

Virtue Focus - One virtue will be chosen each week to ponder, focus on, and talk about. We define the virtue, read a quote about the virtue, and ask some stimulating questions.

Literature and Poetry - Every week we will have a selection of fables, stories of courage, tales, and poems, plus a book list. Everything copied onto LLL is from public domain.

History Focus - An historical focus for each week comes with a memory sentence, assigned reading from Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauerand a writing prompt.

Science Focus - A science focus is chosen each week with minimal content. We have a nature journal activity to spark curiosity that usually involves getting outside!  Use the sources from your own bookshelf, the library, videos etc. to go as deep into the science focus as you wish.

Math Focus - Math focus is very basic. However, many times a gap in fundamentals can cause problems down the road.

Art - A painting will be given every week to enjoy, ponder, inspect and appreciate. A very basic drawing lesson will also be included.
